These are best served hot and crispy, so while you can take it to a picnic in a bento box, it's best fried at a family bbq.

Ingredients:

1 can SPAM
1 block kamaboko
1 package won ton pi
oil for frying
water

1. Slice the SPAM and kamaboko into large 3 inch sticks.
2. Lay out a won ton pi. Take one SPAM and one kamaboko stick and place them on the middle of the pi, with the ends touching a corner.
3. Fold the corners over to wrap the sticks up.
4. Wet your finger and lightly dab the underside of the top corner to make it stick to the pi.
5. Deep fry the wrap until the pi is golden brown.

That sounds delish! I've only had kamaboko once on a stick ( at least I think that's what it was, it was during a county fair a state over at a booth in front of a Korean market ), but I've never had it this way! Unfortunately kamaboko is one of those things you just can't get here. I sort of wonder if I can get it online, it's worth a search. Smiley

Ugh, I would hope not, since it's fishcake!

No, I know it's fishcake lol. I've been messing with bento long enough that I've seen it used several times it's just impossible to get here so I've never used it myself, because of that I don't know what it tastes like for sure so I didn't know if that's what I had - but the girl who I had lunch with that day confirms that it's exactly what it was. It's called hotbar or something like that, and I have to say the taste was unique though it was so long ago I think I'd have to have it again, knowing full well what it is, to see if I liked it lol.

Wow, that's really strange! I've never heard of hotbar, but I did find something online about it. Cool! Cheesy

I'm enjoying reading your Spam recipes and hope to try a few out.  As a kid we usually had Spam on Friday nights, breaded in cornbread mix and fried with a slice of pineapple.  Mom was nothing, if not consistent.

Now, I just need to convince the hubby.  He's not a picky eater as far as flavors go, just as far as content.  Have you ever tried to make a completely protein bento?  It's not easy.

Sounds like spam katsu, which I LOVE over Japanese curry. Curry House used to have spam katsu as an option before, but then they discontinued it. Sooo good! Sumo Ramen still has it though.

I haven't made an all protein bento before, sounds challenging!

This sounds wonderful!
As far as finding a replacement for the kamaboko, Faith, you could try imitation crab products, they come in stick (used to be better than they are now) and chunks in different flavors, like crab, lobster, and shrimp. That might blend well with the spam and wonton.

If you get desperate you can order it from http://www.hawaiianfoodonline.com, never tried ordering from them before since I live in Hawaii, but it was a link from Zippy's Hawaii. I will edit this one I'm on a real computer and not my iPhone.
